Insurance Info
Did you know???
Most health insurance plans in Maryland cover all of your lactation visits at no-cost to you!
If you are interested in using your health insurance for lactation support in Baltimore, submit your info here.
We are in-network providers with:
Carefirst/BCBS/Anthem/Federal BCBS
Most plans allow unlimited home and virtual visits at no out of pocket cost to you. We can bill any local Maryland plan with no restrictions, and any out of state plan with the suitcase logo on the front (part of the BlueCard program). Sometimes there are processing errors and it shows a balance due, but we will call to get it reprocessed for you if we can. We submit all claims directly to Carefirst of Maryland.
Cigna through Wildflower Health
Guaranteed no out of pocket cost with unlimited visits for Mom and/or Baby (one or the other). Wildflower Health shows up on your EOBs and acts as an intermediary to process b
Aetna/Mertain
Aetna is the most restrictive. They limit the number of billing codes for lactation visits. Some plans will only cover 3 visits (because we may need to use one code for mom, and one code for baby). You can call and ask how many uses of the code S9443 with diagnosis code Z39.1 you have. If you did any online lactation courses prenatally, it may have used up some of your codes. We submit all claims directly to Aetna.
United Healthcare
Most plans allow unlimited home visits at no out of pocket cost to you. Virtual care may not be covered. We submit all claims directly to United Healthcare.
What about…
Tricare
We are registered out-of-network providers with Tricare. You will have to pay out of pocket and we will give you a superbill for possible reimbursement.
Medicaid
Unfortunately, Medicaid does not allow Lactation Providers to be in-network. We are working to change that at the state level! In the meantime, we offer a sliding scale for out-of-pocket care ($25-$75 a visit). Please go ahead and fill out of our form to get started and we will be in touch.
How to Confirm Insurance Coverage:
At Wild Fig Lactation, we bill both lactating parent and baby if they are both present during the visit. If you are wondering what lactation coverage your plan offers, you can call and ask if the following codes are covered with the diagnosis code Z39.1.
Home visit: 99344, 99349, 99350, 99404, S9443. Telehealth: 99404, S9443
You do not need a referral or pre-certification to get lactation services through any of the above insurance companies.
